A REALLY Edmonton Engagement Session!
I first met Candice when I photographed her best friend Nikki’s wedding in the wayyy wayyy back of 2012! I had no idea they were even dating but fast forward to last summer and an email inquiry from Candice…I find out she’s engaged to Nikki’s brother, Danny! And that they’re set to be married August of this year. Such a cool story, right?! Anyway, we met up for coffee to discuss details and then got together to hang out again last fall to photograph their engagement session in downtown Edmonton.
Danny is a big part of the community here in Edmonton (particularly Oliver and downtown) so Candice asked that we incorporate something that was “really Edmonton” into their pictures. She suggested the High Level Bridge at night with the cool colored LED lights that are now on it. I hadn’t even seen the new lights on the bridge at that point nor did I really understand why they were different colors. I was worried we’d get there and find out that on the night we shot their engagement session the lights were like, green or something (and therefore cast a terrible green tone on their skin)! Luckily that wasn’t the case…but it was an Edmonton Oiler’s hockey game night so the bridge was alternating orange and blue! I was happy to see it, though, because it definitely added to the “something really Edmonton” factor in their photos. :) I also asked what kind of things they liked to do together and she mentioned Remedy Cafe off Jasper Avenue — so we grabbed a warm Chai in the middle of our session to thaw out and took a few cute images inside. (Thanks to Remedy for letting us take a few pics in there!)
Here are some favorites from their session around the Oliver community in downtown Edmonton, Remedy Cafe and at the High Level Bridge/Ezio Faraone park.
